KTLK Talk Spot

These people really give me the creeps in many ways.  But I think the most damaging thing they do is sell people, especially young people, on the idea they should look to the government for "help" and "guidance" and "big solutions" to societal & even individual problems.

It's almost like they want to dis-enfranchise and disable people from helping themselves and thinking for themselves.  The elite left is somehow smarter than everyone else and we must subscribe to their world view or we are doomed.

This message seems like the ultimate poisonous kool aid, and erodes the foundation of our democracy.  It seems to be setting the stage for a more totalitarian and authoritarian form of government in this country.

It seems to me the message needs to be "Look to the government for assistance only as a last resort.  First and foremost seek to help yourself."

Anyway, I know this is not at all a new criticism of the elite left, but it's particularly annoying and troublesome to me right now being bombarded every day by this message in the mainstream media.  Yuck!

Welcome to the TalkSpot, Island Native!  You've posted some good stuff here, and I agree w/ most of it.  Those on the Left do indeed seem intent on convincing people to depend on the Govt more & more these days.  I never used to buy into that "creating a culture of dependancy" argument, but over the last few years I've started to wonder if it's really true!  In fact, I think I posted something along these very same lines just a few wks ago, in another thread. 

BTW, you're likely going to encounter some "static" from someone in here named "ShackLFord.  He's gotten in the habit of cutting & pasting modified versions of my typical "Welcome" messages all over the place.  He seems to think it's either funny or annoying I guess, tho it seems kinda 10-yr oldish to me.  Anyway, I really like this post of yours & I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Thanks USMC!  My wife's family is working class democrats, so I really can't complain much to them.  My side of the fam is working class conservatives, but we can only complain so much to each other and it gets kind of old.  I really would rather not think about politics at all, but given the aggressive push by people like George Soros and Obama and other rich ass elite leftys I think to ignore this power grab in the making is to be cowardly and complacent.  Kind of like Neville Chamberlain in the late 1930's.

I believe it's good to have balance and accountability in government.  I think Bush needs to be challenged cuz he is a bit of a cowboy, though not at all as bad as the media portrays him.  However, everyone needs their wings clipped now and again. 

But a wholesale increase in governmental power is NOT the right response.  We need less government, not more.  Johnny Mc might not be the perfect answer, but he's LIGHTYEARS better than a power hungry left wing operator like the Obamatron.  The whole skillfully scripted rallying cry rhetoric and stage show is positively frightening... like the 4th Reich or something.  Just say no to crazy empty promises from the right or left.  What's that old Who song... Won't Get Fooled Again?

I would say it's the blame everyone else issue. High gas prices, the housing mess. How this is all Bush's and Conservatives in generals fault is beyond me. And never mind liberals and their enviro-whackos won't allow oil companies to explore and drill for oil here Socialized medicine is a right, (bull fu--ing s--t), policies that both Obomber and broom rider one want to implement, which will just drive MORE jobs overseas, and most of those jobs island native ARE working class democrats that are in Unions which consistently endorse libs no matter what their stand. Got news for the union folks out there. The more the politicians jam regulations down companies throats, the more prone they are to leaving the country. Here's a nice little scenario for you all. What if Canada and Mexico decided to build nuclear powerplants along the border and sell us electricity? I do know that Canada and us share power on the same grid and also "power share" so put a sock in it SLF. But in reality that could happen and our own power companies could get undercut. Same with a lot of products we buyin the stores. I even remember "talk" (more of a rumor) of a certain soda pop company building a "super plant" in Mexico since NAFTA was approved and labor prices would drop like a rock. It could happen... Yes, liberals will doom this country. On the bright side, if Obomber is elected, he will pretty much destroy any economic viability we have much like Carter did. Then we can only hope that there's a Reagan in the making out there somewhere to get things back on track.

Your welcome, Island Native.  I know what you mean about the difference's in family's, as my side of my family are mostly working class conservatives while most of those on my wife's side are either working class moderates or liberals.  We generally try to stay away from political discussions at home, just for that reason.  LOL!

I find your reference to Chamberlain interesting, as I think that applies on multiple levels here.  Not only does Chamberlain-style "appeasement" apply in our dealings w/ the George Soro's of our modern political landscape, but I believe it also applies to our dealings w/ foreign policy, (ie: do we actively oppose Terrorism around the world, and form & participate in alliances to do so?), AND in dealing w/ our own homegrown "Special Interest Groups".  (ie: do we continue to allow the practice of "appeasing" special interest groups determine if or how our own individual freedoms get further limitations placed upon them?)

Political compromise is one thing, and indeed is necessary sometimes.  But I believe that full-blown Chamberlain-style "appeasement" is a bad course to follow, no matter where it's applied politically, either Domestically or Internationally.
